I really enjoy the characters, the settings, the dialogue, everything about this series—except the structure of the books. This feels and reads like a toss-off, just deadline-driven filler. It’s a brief interlude, a quickie to wrap-up what is presented as a minor detail. But it’s Rita’s wedding! I read it over one large mug of coffee, and was really disappointed by how superficially a major life event for the lead characters was handled. The potential for a whole, rich story is briefly flashed, but then is dropped into nowhere. Rather obviously set aside for future use, but it leaves this a disorganized and over-priced short story. Let me preface this review by saying I loved and devoured the prior books. This "book" is not in that category. First of all, this is not a book. Interestingly, there is not a page amount given prior to purchase. If I had to guess, I'd say it's under 100 pages if that. In reading it, it feels that way too. Very rushed.Wondering if the author just felt like giving up halfway through. Book has a good start, and in line with prior books. Then it just drops off. It's like author got to page 60 and was like let me wrap this up in 5 pages. What's most disappointing is that the story wrap up involves what the reader thinks is the main story here which is the handfasting. Hate to see a really good series conclude this way. I'd recommend passing on this book, and allowing the last one which was really good to be how this series concludes. I only wrote this review in the hopes that author might get some feedback, and decide to expand "book" in the interests of her readers and in order to give real closure to her characters.
